In his first year, he scored an all-time rookie record of 53 goals and 92 points to win the Calder Trophy. Bossy scored at least 50 goals in 3 successive seasons and wanted to further test himself. He came up with the idea to match the 50 goals in 50 games record set by Maurice ""Rocket"" Richard from 36 years earlier. When Bossy finally accomplished that goal he arrived back in the locker room with a congratulating telegram from Richard himself.
